  • Northwest High School Student Donates Backpacks to Help Others

    Northwest High School student, Hayleigh Hutyra, stopped by Pike Middle School to deliver more than 100 backpacks for the annual NISD school supply drive. Thanks to her program, "Baking for Backpacks", Hayleigh bakes and sells cookies throughout the year to raise funds which she uses to purchase backpacks. Hayleigh started “Baking for Backpacks” as a way to give back to the community. Surprisingly, she began the project as an elementary student. Her program to help children in need continues today as she donated 106 backpacks for the NISD Back to School Fair. They will be distributed at the fair to children in need on Saturday, August 15th in preparation for the upcoming school year.

  • Northwest AD Tapped to Lead State UIL Athletics

    The University Interscholastic League (UIL) has named Susan Elza, Ed.D. to the position of UIL Athletic Director. She is the first woman to hold that position. Dr. Elza will begin her new position in August and will oversee the UIL athletic department and administer athletic activities for UIL member schools. “Dr. Susan Elza has been dedicated to UIL athletics for many years, and brings to the League extensive knowledge and a commitment to continued excellence,” said Dr. Charles Breithaupt, the UIL’s Executive Director. “Her experience and leadership will be an invaluable asset to the UIL and extracurricular athletics in Texas.”

  • 3-Peat For BNHS Solar Car Team

    This summer the BNHS Solar Car Team competed in the Solar Car Challenge. The Solar Car Challenge is a four day event held each summer where high schools from across the country compete. This year’s event was four days racing around Texas Motor Speedway. After four grueling days of Texas heat and competition, Led by Team Sponsor, Mr. Jeff Taylor, the BNHS Solar Car Team came out on top winning 3 of the 4 daily awards and their 3rd straight Solar Car Challenge National Championship in the Classic Division.

  • NISD Administrators Recognized at State Conference

    Eric Drewery, Ed.D., principal of Medlin Middle School, has been named the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals (TASSP) Region XI Outstanding Middle School Principal of the Year. As the Region XI winner, he is eligible to compete for the state title of Texas Principal of the Year. Chisholm Trail Assistant Principal Matrice Raven has been selected as the TASSP Region XI Outstanding Middle School Assistant Principal of the Year.
