NISD community members will promote heart disease awareness and healthy living on Friday, February 5 by sporting a t-shirt designed by Justin Elementary second grader Brody Caswell. Caswell, along with elementary students across the district, submitted t-shirt designs for the NISD community to wear on February 5. Caswell's design was selected as the winner and is featured on the t-shirt. Congrats Brody! Click on the link to find out how to order your shirt!
The 2016 Exemplar Educator for Justin Elementary is Brandi Wheeler. Mrs. Wheeler is in her 4th year of teaching, currently working with 5th grade language arts and social studies. She is in the i3 Technology Leadership Cohort, Thinking Maps trainer of trainers, and the L.E.A.P. program for aspiring principals. Nominated by a colleague, “She is continually striving to learn more and go above what is expected of a teacher at Northwest. She has a positive attitude and looks for solutions instead of dwelling on problems.”
For the 5th year in a row, CoServ Electric has provided a generous grant of $10,000 to supply snack packs to students for extra nourishment on the weekends. Special THANKS go to Harold and Mina Field for their support in writing this grant and coordinating the packing of the food.
We are looking for 4th & 5th graders who want to make our school the best in the universe! Students leaders volunteer around the school with a job before school, during recess, or afterschool once a week. Duties include opening car doors, emptying recycle containers, working with kindergarten students, and helping with morning announcements.
Teachers and students have joined together to look for signs of bullying and not be a bystander when someone needs our help. We are practicing ways to step in and help someone who is the target of a bully.
1. Walk over and stand/sit next to the victim.
2. Use your words to tell the bully "No".
3. Tell an adult nearby what is happening.
