Northwest ISD is committed to providing every student with the highest level of instruction in the visual and performing arts. The comprehensive fine arts program includes studies in the areas of Art, Band, Choir, Dance, Elementary Music, Music Theory, Orchestra, Speech and Theatre.
The vision of Northwest ISD Fine Arts is to become the premier school district in the state of Texas for the visual and performing arts. More than 86 percent of the students in Northwest ISD are currently enrolled in at least one fine arts course.
Northwest ISD is proud to be one of the "Best Communities for Music Education in America."
News and Notes
The Northwest High School Texan Marching Band competed in the UIL Area Marching Contest on October 27th in Odessa, TX. The band advanced to the finals in this prestigious competition. Congratulations Texan Band!
The NISD all-district middle school musical cast performed Guys & Dolls. The students thrilled audiences during the shows four day run. Congratulations to the cast and crew for a job well done!
NISD Choir and Orchestra Students Earn Regional Recognition.
On Saturday, October 20th middle school and high school students from across the district competed for a place in the Region 2 Choir and Orchestra ensembles. In the orchestra division, 28 high school students and 13 middle school students were selected to perform in the ensembles. In the choral division, 11 high school students and 49 students were selected to perform in the choirs. Many NISD students earned top chairs in these prestigious ensembles.
NISD is one of the "Best Communities for Music Education in America!" In March of 2013, Northwest ISD was named one of the "Best Communities for Music Education in America" by the NAMM Foundation for the fifth consecutive year. Each year the NAMM Foundation surveys school districts and communities across America in search of the best schools for music education. Here is a link to all of the school districts on the list.
Congratulations to the NHS Winter Guard and Rachel Furner for their outstanding competition season. In every event they participated in a school/district record was broken. This past Saturday at the NTCA championships they finished “on the podium” for the first time. Not only did they earn the bronze medal, but also were promoted to Class A for the 2012-2013 school year.

Fine Arts Office receiving 3 grants!
Acclaimed electric strings group Barrage performed a concert at Northwest High School on Tuesday October 18. The concert featured a performance of more than 150 Northwest ISD orchestra students on stage alongside Barrage. Click Here for more information!
