The Varsity Women’s Choir from Gene Pike Middle School, under the direction of Suzanne Hughes, competed in the prestigious American Classic Music Festival at the historic Majestic Theater in downtown Dallas this spring. These highly talented young ladies came home with the highest award - “Best in Festival.” In addition to outscoring all the other middle school choirs in attendance, they also outscored all of the high school choirs in attendance.
Through the NISD Partners in Education Program, the Ballpark in Arlington will host an Northwest ISD Night on Wednesday, May 30. Game time is 7:05 p.m. Students from Byron Nelson, Northwest, and Steele High Schools will sing the National Anthem and a representative from NISD will throw out the ceremonial first pitch. In appreciation for the students’ hard work during the 2011-2012 school year, each student is eligible for one Upper Reserved ticket for only $2 for games listed on the Rangers flyer. $1 will be given back to Northwest ISD. NISD named the Teachers of the Year and Exemplar Educators at the Inspire Celebration April 19. The student enrollment in Northwest ISD continues to climb. In fact, Northwest ISD’s student population has nearly tripled in the last 10 years, and the district welcomed more than 1,200 new students in the fall of 2011. To meet the needs of its growing communities, Truett Wilson Middle School will open in August 2012. The new school will serve sixth- through eighth-grade students who live in the Sendera Ranch community as well as families who live in the Haslet Elementary attendance zone
