Special Education (Overview)
It is the mission of the Special Education Department of the Northwest Independent School District to support the educational process in preparing special education students to be successful, productive citizens.
Each NISD campus has special education teachers and teacher assistants who provide instruction/support to eligible special education students in a variety of settings based on the individual needs of each student.
The evaluation staff consist of Diagnosticians (Diag.), Licensed Specialists in School Psychology (LSSP), and Speech/Language Pathologists (SLP). They are assigned to specific schools to evaluate students for special education services, assist teachers with programming and accommodations, and conduct Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) meetings. The SLPs also provide therapy to eligible students.
