Primary reading instruction helps the young child to utilize three main components of reading that actively work together. These are called: meaning, structure and visual cues. When they look at the pictures of story reader, they are trying to understand what the story is about. They are searching for "meaning." As the child tries to read the print, he is connecting what is written to the picture, therefore, the "visual" cues are used. What is written always needs to sound right, so the child would need to make adjustments in his reading so that the correct "structure" is used.
