The finalist will be judged April 19/20 and then she will attend “An Artistic Discovery” Reception at the Center for Visual Arts in Denton on April 30th. Exhibition of the work and presentation of awards will be given by Congressman Burgess. Grand Prize and 1st place artwork will be sent to Washington, D.C. and 2nd and 3rd place will be accepted for display in Congressman Burgess’ Lewisville or Fort Worth Office. Grand Prize winners will attend a national exhibition and reception in Washington, D.C. There will be a National opening of the exhibit June 20th and the artwork will be on display for 1 year.

The Byron Nelson Girls soccer team just won the regional tournament and has advanced to the state tournament next weekend. Congratulations Bobcats!
Byron Nelson High School (BNHS) senior Lauren Gilmer has been named a National Merit Finalist in the 57th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. Byron Nelson High School will graduate its first senior class in June, and Gilmer is the school’s first finalist. Gilmer, a resident of Trophy Club, is a lieutenant for the Byron Nelson High School color guard and a member of the national honor society. She plans to pursue a college degree in psychology.
BNHS, in partnership with students, parents, and community, will ensure a premier education for all learners. Through innovative educational opportunities, students will be challenged, engaged, and offered leadership experiences, thereby, creating the Byron Nelson culture.
The National Forensics League has ranked the Byron Nelson High School Speech and Debate team in its Top 10 percent of nationally ranked programs. Seven students have qualified for the state championship and the team is only in its first month of the season.

Northwest ISD has launched a newly designed website to coordinate with the district’s branding campaign. Branding the school district will create an overall awareness of NISD’s mission and vision for staff, students and the community. Features include alerts, updated information, videos, quick links and more.
NISD has been selected as a 2011 Best Communities for Music Education. This is the third consecutive year for Northwest ISD to be a member of such an elite group of districts who offer comprehensive, well-rounded music education.

On Wednesday, April 11th, the Byron Nelson HS Bands competed at UIL. Both bands received the Sweepstakes rating for their concert and sight-reading performances. This event marks the first time at Byron Nelson HS that the band program earned the Sweepstakes award. Congratulations Byron Nelson Band!
