Meeting Procedures

Board Meetings

Northwest ISD Board meetings are open to the public. Regular meetings will be held at 7 p.m. on the second and fourth Monday of each month in the Board Room at the Administration Building (2001 Texan Drive, Justin).

With public notice, Trustees also hold special meetings and work sessions as needed. A majority of the board constitutes a quorum for the transaction of business.

Within the limits of the Texas Open Meetings Act, parts of the board meetings may be closed to the public for topics including, but not limited to, these: real estate transactions, personnel matters, student hearings, and legal matters.

Board Business

A typical board agenda includes special reports and routine business such as personnel matters and bids. Business may also include reports from the administrative staff and first and second readings of board policies. Visitors may obtain copies of the agenda at the sign-in table before the meeting begins.

Public Participation

NISD patrons, students, or staff may address the board by completing a Speakers Card at the beginning of the meeting and placing it on the table or handing it to a greeter. Visitors are welcome to address agenda items and non-agenda items at the beginning of the meeting during public participation. Those requesting to speak on an agenda item may wait to speak until the allotted time for that item.

When called upon, the visitor will be asked to approach the podium and state his/her name and the organization represented or hometown. All remarks will be limited to three minutes.

a Patrons may direct inquiries to board members and to the superintendent of schools over those things which the board has direct responsibilities. Although state law prohibits deliberation, discussion, or action of any item not on the official agenda, board members welcome public input and will carefully consider all matters brought to their attention when making decisions.
