For the past 12 years, Northwest ISD has partnered with Durham School Services for transportation. Durham School Services and NISD are committed to the safe and timely pick-up and delivery of NISD students. Recent parent surveys show approximately 85% are satisfied with the transportation services provided for their children.
Did you know Durham School Services performs routine preventative maintenance on every school bus, and the drivers complete a pre-and-post vehicle inspection for every route? Drivers use an Electronic Vehicle Inspection Reporting (EVIR) Device to scan access points on the buses, allowing Durham to document proper pre-and-post trip inspections. This data is sent back electronically to the local Durham maintenance team to provide real-time information to mechanics to make repairs.
The American School Bus Council reports school buses are designed to be safer than passenger vehicles in avoiding crashes and preventing injury. Durham school bus drivers are well-trained in school bus safety and student behavior management. Drivers are required to receive special security, medical training and receive regular drug and alcohol testing to provide a safe ride for students.
Northwest ISD strives to provide support systems that enhance a positive learning environment and foster student and community pride. Northwest ISD has approximately 150 buses with 106 routes that run to and from campuses.
