What is the UIL?
The UIL is an opportunity for students to take what they have learned from the classroom and apply it in a competitive but friendly academic environment. The goals of the UIL are as follows:
bring excitement to learning
work with other students in a competitive atmosphere
achieve mastery of essential knowledge and skill
test students' skills and knowledge
experience the satisfaction of a successful and rewarding performance
achieve academic excellence and recognition
What are the contests that students can participate in?
At Justin Elementary, students have participated in the following:
Number Sense (grades 4-5)
Oral Reading (grades 3-5)
Spelling (grades 3-5)
Creative Writing ( grade 2)
Storytelling (grades 2-3)
Ready Writing (grades 3-5)
Dictionary Skills (grade 5)

When will UIL begin and when is the competition?
Due to the limit of entrants allowed, tryouts are usually held in late fall. Once tryouts are held, practices are once a week, and usually begin after Christmas. UIL is generally scheduled towards the end of March/early April.
We are always looking for parents to help coach events!
