Battle of the Books 2012-2013

What is Battle of the Books?

Battle of the Books is a reading competition designed to improve reading and comprehension while building enthusiasm for reading.Students will compete individually and in teams to show their knowledge of ten preselected books.

Who can compete?

Students in 3rd, 4th, and 5thgrades are eligible to compete.

How will the teams be formed?

Once students return their signed permission slip, they may begin checking out one Battle book at a time. In November, all students that have read at least three books will take a quiz over all ten books. This quiz will give them exposure to the type of questions that will be used in the competition, and will allow the students to decide if they are committed to continue reading and become team members. Students that choose to continue will be placed on mixed and single grade level teams of six.

When will students practice?

Practice times will be determined once school starts.

When is the campus battle?

In January, the Battle of the Books teams will compete against each other to determine the Schluter Battle of the Books team.

When is the district battle?

The district Battle of the Books competition will be held on February 12, 2013 at 6:00 pm at Northwest High School.
