Why Go to School Here
Northwest ISD has established itself as a premier educational institution in North Texas, with the district earning a reputation of academic excellence, extracurricular opportunities and post-secondary preparation.
At our district, one core belief supersedes all others: kids come first. Every action, decision and plan begins and ends with determining what is best for students. This belief has steered the district’s vision of empowering students to take charge of their own learning to become leaders in their communities and beyond.
A major facet of the district’s commitment to post-secondary success is the preparation it provides students for their paths forward in college, a career, the military or life in general. Northwest ISD operates eight academies out of its four high schools – composed of three comprehensive high schools and an early college high school – to aid that preparation. Every district student has the opportunity to apply for an academy while in eighth grade.
For those who desire a different route, numerous programs of study provide post-secondary preparation. Students can earn career-ready credentials such as industry certifications and set themselves up to have a competitive advantage over their peers.
Northwest ISD’s commitment to literacy also sets it apart from other school systems, as the district places an emphasis on this core skill. Reading and writing are fundamental to almost every profession, and the district has implemented numerous programs – such as Northwest Reads, literacy lounges and much more – to instill that focus at a young age.
Extracurricular activities are bountiful to students at Northwest ISD from a young age, with the academic-focused Destination Imagination program remaining a favorite among many families. The district’s athletics and fine arts programs have won multiple state championships in recent years, with some student-athletes even advancing to the professional ranks and Olympic Trials after graduating.
On the fine arts side, Northwest ISD maintains a focus on art from kindergarten to graduation. Elementary schools introduce visual and musical programs to students, who then go on to follow their pursuits in middle and high school. Access to unique fine arts programs begins early, with middle school students able to take part in orchestra, a districtwide musical, a district middle school dance team and much more. Programs offered include art, band, cheerleading, choir, dance, debate, music, orchestra and theatre.
The district’s athletic programs also earn acclaim, regularly competing for postseason glory in a range of individual and team sports. These programs remain committed to assisting students develop positive relationships, increase academic success and build good citizenship qualities. Sports offered include football, volleyball, basketball, cross country, tennis, wrestling, swimming and diving, soccer, softball, baseball, golf, track and field, and athletic training.
To support all its programs, Northwest ISD maintains excellence in schools and facilities, including unique offerings such as a state-of-the-art aquatics center and an outdoor learning center. When families arrive in Northwest ISD, they’ll see a commitment to kids immediately.
