Early Childhood Development Courses:

Principles of Human Services
This class gives you the basics understanding of the Human Services Pathway. We will cover goal setting, decision making, banking and consumer services, basic needs of children, family roles and responsibilities, cosmetology services, fashion design, interior design and career options within each of these areas in the corporate world, as well as college/certification requirements. It’s the perfect introductory class to getting you started on your path to working with children and studying the family as a basic unit of society.

Child Development
This fun class gives students the in’s and out’s to working with children. Whether you are planning to work with kids, or one day have your own this is a great class to prepare you for your future. Students will understand how to plan for marriage, pregnancy, labor & delivery, taking care of children, infants through elementary, nutrition through childhood, and careers in child development.

Family and Community Services
This is a laboratory-based course designed to involve students in realistic and meaningful community-based activities through direct service or service-learning experiences. Students are provided opportunities to interact with and provide services to individuals, families, and the community through community or volunteer services. Emphasis is placed on developing and enhancing organizational and leadership skills and characteristics

Practicum in Human Services:
This course provides industry training focused on the career pathways of Early Childhood Development, Counseling and Mental Health Services, Family and Community Services and Consumer Services. In other words, this course is a way for students to have an internship that will place them within a child focused company, a non-profit organization, government agency or other Human Services specific company. This course may only be taken upon the completion of the other courses above and student will need their own transportation to their site placements.
 Certifications: CPR/First Aid 


What type of student should take these courses?
The Early Childhood Development Pathway is for a student interested in a career helping/working with children and the families. These careers may be within a home, school, hospital, clinical or other additional setting involving children. A student in this pathway would be of good character, empathetic, understanding, helpful, trustworthy, and show a willingness to work with and help others.
