Early Childhood Development Courses:

Principles of Human Services
This course is a laboratory course that will enable students to investigate careers in the Human Services Career Cluster, including counseling and mental health, early childhood development, family and community, personal care, and consumer services.

Child Development
This course is a technical laboratory course that addresses knowledge and skills related to child growth and development from prenatal through school-age children. Students participate in a Reality Works Baby Simulator Project, prepare nutritious kid-friendly snacks, as well as investigate careers related to the care and education of children.

Family and Community Services
This course is a laboratory-based course designed to involve students in realistic and meaningful community-based activities through direct service or service-learning experiences. Emphasis is placed on developing and enhancing organizational and leadership skills and characteristics.

Child Guidance (Internship)
This course is a technical laboratory course that addresses the knowledge and skills related to child growth and guidance. Students use these skills to promote the well-being and healthy development of children, strengthen a culturally diverse society, and pursue careers related to the care, guidance, and education of children, including those with special needs.
 Certifications: CPR/First Aid 

What type of student should take these courses?
The Early Childhood Development Pathway is for a student interested in a career helping/working with children and the families. These careers may be within a home, school, hospital, clinical or other additional setting involving children. A student in this pathway would be of good character, empathetic, understanding, helpful, trustworthy, and show a willingness to work with and help others.
