Health Sciences Courses:

Principles of Health Science
A course designed to develop health care specific knowledge and skills in a variety of area in the medical field. Students will learn about many aspects of Healthcare including different healthcare careers, effective patient communication, medical ethical and legal responsibilities, patient care, anatomy & physiology, safety, and first aid. This course prepares the student for the transition to clinical or work based experiences in healthcare.

Medical Terminology
Helps students learn the language of medicine and is an excellent foundation for any student looking to pursue a career in healthcare. Students will learn how to break down medical words into translatable pieces to gain a better understanding of the human body systems. Students will use the knowledge gained in this class to help them move into upper level courses such as Anatomy & Physiology, Practicum Medical Assistant & Practicum EMT. Medical Terminology is a must for any student wanting to have a successful Medical Career.

Health Science Theory 
Students will progress from what they learned in Principles of Health Science at a more advanced level, First Aid, CPR/AED Heartsaver certification renewed and students are prepared for advanced courses. Students will also learn advanced levels of Anatomy & Physiology, Medical Ethics and Legal Aspects in Medicine, advanced levels of Patient Assessment & Care including Temperature, Pulse, Respiration & Blood Pressure. Plus, students will learn how to write, read & fill prescriptions and they will learn advanced levels of Medical terminology. This course is required for upper level courses such as Practicum in Health Science-Medical Assistant & Practicum in Health Science (EMT).

Anatomy & Physiology
This class is designed to give students a deeper foundation in the anatomy of the human body and the physiology of how each body system works together to maintain optimum body function. Students will explore each system in depth including the skeletal, muscular and nervous systems through the use of hands on dissections and real world case studies. They will also have the opportunity explore healthcare professions related to each system.

Practicum in Health Science Clinical Medical Assistant
This is a double blocked course where students prepare to take the Clinical Medical Assistant certification exam. Students are not required to complete clinical rotations, however they will take the exam prior to graduation. Potential Certifications include: Combined CMA/EKG/Phlebotomy certification as well as BLS CPR.
