Several Northwest ISD schools have set ceremonies to honor armed forces personnel for Veterans Day, with activities taking place all across the district.

Ceremony dates differ by school, and some schools may have already celebrated Veterans Day earlier in the week. If a school is not listed, please contact its front office with any questions regarding possible activities. School phone numbers can be found by selecting a campus from the drop-down menu at the top right of www.nisdtx.org.

Activities at various schools can be seen in the list below. This list will be updated with more events as details are provided.

Elementary Schools

  • Beck: Friday, Nov. 10, program from 8 to 10 a.m. During the program’s assembly, the choir will perform, veterans will be recognized and a guest speaker, retired Sgt. Johnnie Yellock (recipient of the Bronze Star, Purple Heart and Combat Action medals), will visit with students and families. The school front office can be reached at 817-215-0450.
  • Cox: Friday, Nov. 10, ceremony at 8:30 a.m. Veterans in the community are welcome to attend, and a slide show will present students and guests with information about some of the community’s veterans. Students will introduce guests, and each veteran will receive a gift made by students in art class. A cookie and punch reception will follow the ceremony.   • Granger: Friday, Nov. 10, program beginning at 9 a.m. Retired Navy Officer Lieutenant Commander Cliff Johnson will speak to students. Parents, guardians and veterans are invited. The school front office can be reached at 817-698-1100.
  • Haslet: Friday, Nov. 10, assembly at 8 a.m. and Tuesday, Nov. 14, evening performance. Students will perform and a slide show will be shown honoring veterans of Haslet families. The school front office can be reached at 817-215-0850.
  • Love: Friday, Nov. 10, assembly at 8 a.m. Veterans will be honored in person at the assembly, and parents and guardians are invited. Photos of veterans to be included in the assembly can be emailed to a parent volunteer at kkruse10@yahoo.com. For any veterans attending in person, please call the school at 817-698-6600 to complete an information form.
  • Nance: Friday, Nov. 10, breakfast and program. The breakfast for veterans will take place from 7:15 to 8 a.m. in the school cafeteria, and the program will begin at 8:15 a.m. in the school gym. The school front office can be reached at 817-698-1950.
  • Peterson: An assembly was held earlier this week to honor veterans. See some photos by clicking here.
  • Prairie View: Friday, Nov. 10, ceremony beginning at 9 a.m. Schoolwide fine arts and academic performances will be take place as well as an introduction of veterans in attendance. The school front office can be reached at 817-215-0550.
  • Roanoke: Friday, Nov. 10, assembly at 2 p.m. All students participated in DIY activities last week to create different aspects of the school assembly. The school front office can be reached at 817-215-0650.
  • Schluter: Friday, Nov. 10, assembly at 7:40 a.m. All veterans and families are invited to attend the assembly, which will last until 8:10 a.m. in the school gym. The school front office can be reached at 817-698-3900.
  • Seven Hills: Friday, Nov. 10, program at 8 a.m. Veterans from the community will be honored by a program led by fifth-graders. Community veterans are welcome to the event, and fifth-grade parents and guardians are also invited to attend. The school front office can be reached at 817-215-0700.

  • Thompson: Friday, Nov. 10, veterans breakfast at 7:30 a.m. followed by an assembly at 8:15 a.m. Students from each grade level will lead the assembly, which will feature music from the Wilson Middle School drum line. 

Middle Schools

  • Chisholm Trail: Friday, Nov. 10, luncheon during three lunch sessions. This luncheon will serve as a joint Veterans Day and Thanksgiving luncheon.   • Medlin: Friday, Nov. 10, reception and assembly. A reception will take place at 12:30 p.m. in the school library, while the assembly will follow in the gym from 1:15 to 1:45 p.m. All veterans are welcome. The school front office can be reached at 817-215-0500.
  • Tidwell: Friday, Nov. 10, ceremonies at 9 a.m. and 10:20 a.m. Veterans are invited to performances by fine arts groups and to hear from Steve Sprowls, Northwest ISD trustee. The first ceremony will include sixth-graders, while the second ceremony will include seventh- and eighth-graders.   • Wilson: Thursday, Nov. 9, two assemblies. Veterans are invited to listen to fine arts students perform at assemblies scheduled for 1 to 2 p.m. and 2:30 to 3:30 p.m., where a guest speaker will also talk to students. The school front office can be reached at 817-698-7900.

High Schools

  • Byron Nelson: Friday, Nov. 10, two assemblies and reception. Veterans are invited to the pre-assembly dessert reception from 12:45 to 1:30 p.m., which will immediately be followed by the two simultaneous assemblies (one in the performing arts center for freshmen, one in the competition gym for other grades).   • Eaton: Friday, Nov. 10, ceremony beginning at 9:30 a.m. Veterans and their immediate family members are welcome to the ceremony, which takes place in the school’s performing arts center (visitors can park in the parking lots by the baseball fields).   • Northwest: Friday, Nov. 10, ceremonies at football game. A flag presentation and banner plane flyover will precede the game, which begins at 7 p.m. at Northwest ISD Stadium, and a station at the game will allow spectators to write thank-you notes that will be sent to active members of the military.
