Byron Nelson's Cassidy Teuscher competes at a cross country meet this year

Each Northwest ISD comprehensive high school was represented by at least one student-athlete at the University Interscholastic League’s Cross Country State Championships, where they competed among the top runners in Texas.

Being in the state’s two largest school-size classifications, all of Northwest ISD’s student-athletes competed on the state’s 5K course. Byron Nelson High School’s Cassidy Teuscher was the district’s top finisher, placing 18th in the girls 6A race in a time of 18:18.94. Kaitlyn Rodysill, a fellow Bobcat state qualifier, was unable to compete in the same race because of an injury. In the boys 6A race, classmate Spencer Hataway finished in 111th place in a time of 16:38.30.

Eaton High School runner Dominick Vastlik served as the sole competitor for the Eagles, finishing in 42nd place with a time of 16:12.28 in the boys 5A race. Dominick is Eaton’s first runner to compete in the state meet. Northwest’s Jacob Webster and Carson Hughes also competed in the same race, finishing in 58th and 64th place with times of 16:26.08 and 16:29.70, respectively.

This marked the first year students from three Northwest ISD high schools have competed in the state meet.
