The National Parent Teacher Association has named six Northwest ISD schools to its list of 2018-20 Schools of Excellence in the United States for the work of their school community associations.

Associations at Beck Elementary School, Justin Elementary School, Love Elementary School, Schluter Elementary School, Byron Nelson High School and Northwest High School all received the award this year, placing them among just 55 Texas schools on the list.

The schools were named to the list for their leadership in cultivating rich school-based relationships between parents, teachers and students. At the secondary level – at Byron Nelson and Northwest – students are directly involved in their associations, as they operate as PTSAs.

Notably, the recognition marks the second consecutive time Northwest has earned the award.

As a result of their inclusion in the list, all six schools are now eligible for the National PTA’s Phoebe Apperson Hearst Awards for Innovation in Family Engagement, the association’s top honor. The National PTA will reveal the winners of the Phoebe Apperson Hearst Awards via an announcement on Facebook on Wednesday, Aug. 15.
