Angie Clark, the campus health coordinator at Nance Elementary School, has earned the Nationally Certified School Nurse credential, becoming the first Northwest ISD school nurse to receive the distinction.

To earn the credential, Mrs. Clark had to work 1,000 or more hours as a practicing school nurse and pass a stringent exam regarding best nursing practices. According to the National Association of School Nurses, the certification represents a “standard of preparation, knowledge and practice.” District leaders have described Mrs. Clark as “a mentor as well as an exemplary nurse and coworker.”

Mrs. Clark said she decided to seek the certification after attending a national conference in San Diego.

“It really opened my eyes to everything involved in this profession and how to continue encouraging best practices as a school nurse,” she said. “It helped me connect to a lot of other school nurses and stay up to date on topics in the field.”

In addition to her new NCSN credential, Mrs. Clark has an RN certification as a registered nurse and BSN certification, or bachelor’s degree in school nursing degree. Beyond her experience as a school nurse, she also has 15 years of experience as a nurse in a hospital.
