July 2020

Dear Parent(s):

Tarrant County health officials recently released an order for area schools, with some exceptions for students receiving special services (special education, 504, GT, etc.).

The Northwest ISD Special Education Department and NISD leadership team have been reviewing these guidelines, along with state guidelines, to create a working plan for students receiving special education services. Due to the new order we are updating the plan to address the exceptions.

The Fall 2020 Guidance for Special Education document should answer many questions you and your family may have regarding how we will continue to support our Special Education students during both Remote Learning and In-Person Instruction.

Please be sure to review the entire document carefully. As we move through the school year, please continue to refer to the document sections that are applicable to your child (remote learning sections versus in person instruction sections).

If you have any questions, or need additional information, please reach out to your child’s special education teacher or diagnostician. Thank you for being patient and understanding during this time. Your child’s safety and education are our top priorities.

We look forward to continuing to work with all our families and students during the coming year.

Thank you.

Micah Gierkey, Executive Director of Special Education
