Several Northwest ISD schools have hosted drive-thru holiday events this month, adapting their traditional winter holiday celebrations to follow COVID-19 health and safety guidelines.
Cox Elementary in Roanoke set up a drive-thru event where families could take photos with Santa while inside their cars. Sendera Ranch families also had the chance to take socially-distanced photos with Santa.
Peterson Elementary invited families to drive-thru their campus and have cookies with Santa, and J.C. Thompson Elementary planned a Winter Wonderland drive-thru experience featuring hot cocoa, goodie bags, Santa Letters and a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus.
Justin Elementary changed their annual “Supper with Santa” event, which feeds more than 750 residents, to a drive-thru experience. “Cookies with Santa” gave community members the chance to drive-thru holiday light displays, receive a cookie and hot cocoa or chocolate milk, and visit with Santa from inside their vehicle.
Seven Hills Elementary in Newark planned a drive-thru “PJ Party with Santa” from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Dec. 19. Families will drive-thru the school parking lot to view holiday lights, receive a craft project they can complete at home, pick up some reindeer food, drop off letters to Santa and take a photo with him at this free community event.
