Northwest ISD Communications Department Wins National, State Awards

Arena Blake, communications specialist, received three Awards of Excellence from the National School Public Relations Association — the top national award that recognizes outstanding education publications and digital media. Blake earned recognition for the Northwest ISD Facebook page, Cybersecurity Awareness digital magazine and her feature story, “The Show Goes on for NISD Middle School Musical.”

At the state level, the team earned two gold awards, two silver awards and a crystal commendation certificate of merit in the annual Texas School Public Relations Association Star Awards.

Hailee Fojtasek, community engagement and marketing specialist, and Melissa Shawn, communications and web specialist, earned a gold award for their “Faces That Make NISD” advertisement. Fojtasek also took home a silver star for her feature story, “The Little Tree That Could: Angel Tree Program Keeps Pace with District Growth.”

Alyssa Edstrom, community relations specialist for the foundation, joined with Shawn to win a gold award for the foundation’s annual report. Edstrom also received a silver star for her feature story, “R.I.S.E. Up: NEF Grant Enhances Student-Led Business to Increase Productivity."

Fojtasek and Edstrom garnered a Crystal Commendation Certificate of Merit for the iNvest2Serve initiative, which allowed community members, businesses and faith-based organizations to come together to meet the needs of families. The program delivered 26,000 snack packs and 2,500 books to NISD families, along with many other necessities.
