STAAR - State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness
The State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR - pronounced "star") assesses Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills of core content areas. Texas House Bill 3 (2019) requires all STAAR testing to be conducted online by the 2022-2023 school year. Northwest ISD has decided to transition to online testing starting the 2020-2021 school year.
The following test will be administered online:
- Reading and Mathematics, grades 3–8
- Science at grades 5 and 8
- Social studies at grade 8
- End-of-Course (EOC) assessments for- English I, English II, Biology and U.S History
The following tests will continue to be offered paper mode for the 2020-2021 school year.
- Writing at grades 4 and 7
- End of Course (EOC) assessments for Algebra I
- STAAR Alt 2
Student Success Initiative (SSI)
Waiver of the Student Success Initiative Promotion Requirements
In light of past and current impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, SSI promotion/retention and retesting requirements have been waived for the 2020–2021 school year.
Accelerated instruction is still required for students that score at the did not meet level on 5th & 8th Reading and Math in May 2021.
