Welcome to Northwest ISD

Northwest ISD (NISD) is one of the fastest growing school districts in the state and attracts more than 1,400 new students each year. NISD spans 234 square miles and serves 14 communities in parts of three counties. This year NISD will open a new middle school, Adams Middle School, and a new elementary school, Lizzie Curtis Elementary School. The district operates three comprehensive high schools, an accelerated high school, six middle schools, 18 elementary schools, a special programs center and a community based youth residential program.

New Teacher Support

At NISD, we strive to recruit, develop, retain, and recognize an exceptional, highly motivated staff to optimize student engagement and learning. We strongly believe that this starts with supporting our new teachers.

Mentor Program
All teachers new to NISD are provided with a mentor to help support them throughout the year instructionally as well as with the ins and outs of their campus. Mentors and new teachers are trained on the resources that are provided to the new teachers to optimize their 1st year experience in NISD. Mentors meet with new teachers prior to school beginning and throughout the school year. Our goal is to retain our teachers and help them provide the best education possible for our students.

New Teacher Academy
To continue to support our new teachers, NISD will provide a New Teacher Academy for our new teachers. This academy will meet two times in the fall and one time in the spring of their first year in NISD to support teachers with instruction and curriculum. Those dates will be communicated to new teachers through the Content Coordinators.

Professional Learning in NISD

NISD believes in providing premiere professional learning opportunities. The Professional Learning Framework outlines the various opportunities that support educators in all four domains of the T-TESS. This allows educators to choose sessions that best fit their professional goals. For more information visit the Professional Learning webpage.

ENGAGE
Northwest Independent School District is excited to offer our 4th annual ENGAGE Summer Professional Learning Institute. The ENGAGE Institute offers over 150 learning sessions for teachers and administrators to choose from to meet their individual learning needs. The sessions are taught by outside experts in the field of education, NISD administrators, and our teachers covering every core content area as well as electives.

The ENGAGE Summer Professional Learning Institute will be held at Byron Nelson High School in Trophy Club, Texas.

Teachers that are new to teaching, new to Texas or have not been appraised under the T-TESS system are required to attend our T-TESS Orientation. Teachers that have already completed Thinking Maps and T-TESS trainings may receive credit by turning in your certificate to your campus principal.
