Announcement Icon UPDATE: This article was originally published Aug. 7 under the headline "District policy for free and reduced-priced meals released." It has returned to the homepage as the deadline to submit an application for free or reduced-priced meals is Oct. 10.

Northwest ISD has released its policy for free and reduced-priced meals for the 2017-18 school year, with the free or discounted meals available to those who qualify based on income eligibility guidelines.

The district began distributing letters to households of Northwest ISD children regarding the program’s benefits and any actions their families should take to apply for the benefits. Applications are also available at each district school, online at northwestisd.schoollunchapp.com or in the offices at 1800 State Highway 114 in Justin.

Children are eligible for free or reduced-priced meals based either on household income level, whether they meet automatic eligibility or are part of a participating program. Children who automatically receive eligibility include those in households in at least one of the following programs: Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families and Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations. Children are considered program participants if they meet one of the following statuses: foster, homeless, runaway, migrant, displaced by a declared disaster, or enrolled in Head Start or Even Start.

Any household that does not receive a letter and feels it should have should contact Tiffany Rodgers at trodgers@nisdtx.org or by phone at 817-215-0053.
