BME Fundamentals: Principles of Business, Marketing, and Finance (1 credit)
This course is designed to provide students with a fundamental
understanding of the business world through the lens of innovation and entrepreneurship. In this unique hands-on startup experience, students are challenged to solve a problem or fill a need in their community. You will have the opportunity to experience launching and operating a business. Students explore the sale of goods and services, advertising and marketing strategies, and financial management for a business.
Certification: Microsoft Office, Communication Skills for Business
BME Operations : Entrepreneurship I (1 Credit)
In this unique hands-on business startup experience, students will
understand the components of a business plan, determine feasibility of an idea using research, and develop and present a business concept. Students gain the knowledge, develop the skills, and learn the key concepts necessary to begin and operate a business.
BME Innovation: Entrepreneurship II (1 credit)
Students continue to hone their passion for problem solving and
innovation as they develop skills neccessary to start, operate, and grow a small business. Includes essential management skills, how to prepare a business plan, accounting, financial needs, staffing, marketing strategies, and legal issues. Students explore
case studies in global business to learn strategies for success in business.
BME Capstone: Practicum in business management/Virtual Enterprises International (2 credits)
Students put EVERYTHING learned and implemented in previous years into practice at the global level. Student teams develop a business plan for a virtual start-up business and participate in marketing and selling their product in the Virtual Enterprises
International virtual economy. In this student led and operated virtual business, students assume specific job roles and responsibilities for “their VEI firm.” Students incorporate a broad base of knowledge that includes the legal, managerial, marketing, financial, ethical, and international dimensions of business to make appropriate business
decisions. In order to participate in internships or Virtual Enterprises International students will need prior approval from the academy facilitator.
Business Management Project-Based Capstone (1 CREDIT)
This course is designed to familiarize students with the concepts related to business management as well as the functions of management including, planning, organizing, staffing, leading,
and controlling. Partnering with their teacher and/or mentor, students will complete an indpendent research project relevant to to the functions of business management. Students conduct research,
compile findings, implement project activities appropriate to student contribution, and formally present their work to a relevant audience that may include industry experts.
