Facility Naming

Northwest ISD Board Policy CW Local states: The Board shall name school buildings and educational facilities according to one of the following documented categories:

School buildings serving kindergarten through grade 8:
  1. In memory of a person who has served the District or community, especially in service to children, and whose virtues or characteristics will serve as role models to students, staff and the community;
  2. In memory of any person who has made a s significant contribution to society and/or education, whose name shall lend prestige or status to an institution of learning;
  3. A local residential or geographic area (names in this category should be “neutral” if more than one community will be served by a particular facility); or
  4. A District property donor or his or her family members.

School buildings serving grades 9–12 shall be named according to one of the following documented categories:

  1. In memory of any person who has made a significant contribution to society and/or education and his or her name shall lend prestige and status to an institution of learning;
  2. Any state or national heroic figure, landmark, and/or historical attributes; or
  3. A District property donor or his or her family members.

Facilities other than school buildings shall be named according to the documented categories established for all school buildings.

Persons to be so honored by the naming of school buildings and/or facilities shall not be considered while living.

A selection committee reviews all nominations prior to making a recommendation to the Board. Please note that nominations that do not meet the district policy for a school name will be discarded.

Elementary School No. 20 Background

Northwest ISD's 20th elementary school will be located in the Berkshire master-planned community near U.S. Highway 287. While the school will relieve other elementary campuses in the area, please note that exact boundaries will not be set until a later date, likely in the spring semester of the 2020-21 school year.
