8th Graders Registering for High School
There are many decisions to be made about your course load when registering for high school. We want you to remember these two things:
You do not have to give up your chosen Fine Art class(es) in high school, and you can take Fine Arts classes every year of your high school experience.
Whether you are considering applying to an academy, playing a sport, or taking advanced academic courses, Fine Arts will work in any schedule. Sample schedules are offered below to give you an idea of how to make it all fit. Your situation may vary, but you can use these as a starting point when building your four-year plan.
FAQ's - High School Fine Arts
What is the Fine Arts graduation requirement? The state of Texas requires one credit of Fine Arts to graduate.
Can I be in more than one Fine Art program each year? Yes! We have students who participate in multiple Fine Arts programs every year.
What endorsement does 4 years of Fine Arts earn? You would select the "Arts and Humanities" endorsement on your four-year plan.
If I need to take additional courses to make Fine Arts fit within my schedule, how do I do that? There are several options. You can take course work over the summer through district-arranged online courses (some of these are Canvas courses and some are through the Edgenuity program). You can also take online dual credit courses during the summer and during the school year. Talk to your counselor or see the NISD Academic Planning Guide for more information.
How can I get more bang for my buck in a Fine Arts class? Several Fine Arts classes (Band, Color Guard, Dance, Drill Team, Musical Theatre, and Tech Theatre) are also PE substitutions and can earn PE credit.
