Northwest ISD hosted the Region 2 UIL Marching Contest. All three high school bands--Byron Nelson, Eaton, and Northwest--earned a Division 1 rating for their performances. This rating qualifies Eaton and Northwest to continue on to the 5A Area Marching Contest. 

Middle School Choir students competed for a spot in an All-Region Choir. Over 800 students from neighboring school districts auditioned for 270 chairs. Northwest ISD students earned 81 of those positions, making up 30% of the All-Region Choirs! Here is the breakdown by school of chairs earned:

Chisholm Trail Middle School- 17 chairs
Medlin Middle School- 14 chairs
Pike Middle School- 27 chairs, 3 alternates
Tidwell Middle School- 8 chairs, 1 alternate
Wilson Middle School- 15 chairs, 1 alternate

The Foundation for Music Education recently recognized its Mark of Excellence winners, which included Wilson Middle School's Wind Ensemble for receiving a commended recognition.

Wilson's Wind Ensemble is directed by Ray Hilley and was among the top half of middle school programs in its category and classification, which earned the group its commended status. Wilson and other schools were judged by a panel of collegiate musical experts.

Congratulations to Mr. Hilley, his ensemble, and the Wilson fine arts program for this accomplishment!

The cast and crew of the NISD All-District Middle School Musical  brought audiences to their feet with their production of Disney's Beauty and the Beast, Jr. The most elaborate middle school production to date, the show was a fantastic success featuring top-notch singing, dancing, and characterization.

It was a band extravaganza at the first-ever NISD Band Showcase. Each band program was represented in the performance, with the high schools exhibiting their marching shows and the middle schools playing in the stands. The grand finale featured every participating player on the field to perform a combined number. 

NISD high school choir students competed in the Phase 1 round of the All-State Choir auditions. Of the 98 NISD students to participate, 48 will go on to the next round in the hopes of being selected to the Region Choir and continuing their pursuit towards All-State.


The Dallas Summer Musical Nominees were announced and NISD high school musicals were honored with numerous nominations. At 13 nominations, Byron Nelson HS Theatre was the second highest nominated show! 


Our high school One-Act Plays were in fine form this season. Eaton High School advanced to Area (the furthest advancement in the school's history) and Northwest High School advanced to Region--the last stage before State. Below are the individual honors for each program.

Northwest ISD was named one of the "2017 Best Communities for Music Education in America" by the NAMM Foundation for the 9th consecutive year! The Bobcat Dazzlers participated in the MA Dance Competition at Plano East High School. They were honored with these team, officer, and solo awards:

All three high school theatre departments presented stellar musicals. Each show featured student talent on stage, in the orchestra pit, and behind the scenes working as tech crews. Congratulations to each school for the high quality and caliber of their shows!

After months of preparation and auditions, 6 NISD music students were selected to participate in a Texas All-State ensemble. This is the highest honor a high school music student can receive in Texas. Congratulations to the following students:

The cast and crew of the NISD All-District Middle School Musical amazed audiences with their performance of The Lion King, Jr. The energetic production featured talented students from each NISD middle school, and opened to a sold-out crowd!

​Over 200 strings students descended on Wilson Middle School to polish and perfect their audition literature at the NISD Region Orchestra Bootcamp. Thank you to Bell's Music Shop for providing pizza and t-shirts for the students!


The NISD all-district middle school musical cast performed High School Musical, Jr. The students thrilled audiences during the show's run. Congratulations to the cast and crew for a job well done!

This year NISD presented a musical and art show at the 2015 TASA convention in Austin. Check out the student performance and the art show!

Thank you NEF!!! Congratulations to all of the fine arts teachers who received grants from the Northwest Education Foundation this year. Fine arts grants totaled more than $56,400! This grant money will be used to fund innovative projects in fine arts classrooms across the district. Congratulations teachers! Over the past 5 years Northwest ISD Fine Arts programs have won more that $250,000 in grants!

State Qualifiers

This year 14 students from Northwest ISD qualified for State in the areas of Art, Debate, Choir, Orchestra, and Theatre!
