We are excited to begin providing some in person instruction for a number of our students who receive Special Education Services. Below you will find a link to the NISD Special Education plan that phases students back on campus. Our goal is to keep students safe, follow the current guidelines in place and bring students back slowly so as to allow for safety measures to be in place.

Special Education In Person Plan

Beginning on August 24th M/W/F for two hours per day, selected students will be receiving classroom instruction based on Individualized Education Plans as well as other instructional and related services they receive based on each individual plan (OT, PT, Speech, VI, AI, O&M, counseling). We will also be offering appointment only schedules for these services; you will be contacted by the therapist to set that up.

Beginning the week of August 31st, additional groups of students will begin receiving classroom instruction on M/W/F or T/Th based on Individualized Education Plans as well as other services they receive based on each individual plan (OT, PT, Speech, VI, AI, O&M, counseling). We will continue to offer some appointment only schedules for these services. You will be contacted by the therapist to set that up.

*Please remember that if you choose to send your child for a two hour session M/W/F or Tuesday/Thursday, your child will also need to attend zoom sessions with their teacher and/or related service staff on the days when they are not on campus and the times of day they are not on campus.

Please complete the attached link for the preference form. This form is only indicating if you would like your child to attend in person learning and a preference for time unless already determined by the ARD committee. Please note that due to social distancing we will have to limit the number of students per session.

Special Education Preference Form
Please complete by Monday, August 10th.

Thank you for your patience and understanding, as well as your partnership during this time. You will be notified by your child’s campus once schedules have been developed for those choosing the in person opportunity.

Sincerely,

Micah Gierkey

Executive Director of Special Education
