SEPAC-Special Education Parent Advisory Committee
Greetings NISD community,
We are so excited to share a project that we have been working on for almost two years! Northwest ISD has officially launched a SEPAC-Special Education Parent Advisory Council.
NISD is a leader in inclusive education. It is imperative that the district and the population it serves collaborate effectively during our District’s rapid growth to maintain a standard of excellence district wide. An effective SEPAC engages District stakeholders (i.e., students, parents of students receiving special education services, educators, administrators, and community members with and without disabilities, etc.) in the role of advisors and collaborators. These stakeholders use their family’s experiences, unique perspectives and expertise to influence decisions and help shape programs and policies at the local level by working closely in collaboration with NISD Administration, Educators, and Staff.
We believe that a parent-led council made up of district stakeholders that can collaborate effectively and efficiently will:
- Promote positive educational outcomes and well-being for all students, including those with disabilities.
- Identify concerns and encourage appropriate interventions.
- Help shape the development of programs, services, and policies; as well as improve district and community culture.
- Provide resources to aid families along their journey.
We only need one more thing to get started…YOU! Are you the kind of collaborative, positive, engaged, and dedicated potential committee member we’re looking for? This is an exciting addition to our school district and the community it serves. We can’t wait to get to work!
