Byron Nelson runners set for UIL Cross Country Championships

The Byron Nelson High School girls cross country team, plus Owen Clagett and Liam Bengtsson from the Byron Nelson boys team, are set to represent NISD in Round Rock at the UIL Cross Country State Championships on Saturday. 

The Bobcats recently ran at the 6A Region I meet in Lubbock with the girls placing third as a team to advance to the state championship meet. Coming off of their second straight district title, the team was led at regionals by freshman Lyla Calaway who finished in 25th place. 

Teammates Sammy Spicer, Talia Ramirez and Elena Sather all finished within 10 seconds of Lyla and all placed within the top-30. Other team members include Madison Benton, Kara Black, Elizabeth Day, Layla Geissah, Macie Peterman and Sofia Sanderson.

At the 6A Region I meet in Lubbock, Owen and Liam led the Bobcats boys team with 16th and 19th place finishes, respectively, qualifying them as individuals for the state championship meet.

All races in the state meet will take place at Old Settler’s Park in Round Rock with the 6A races scheduled for Saturday, November 1. The girls race will begin at 9:30 a.m. with the boys to follow at 10:10 a.m.
