Changes to school times and calendar for 2023-2024 year

Changes to school times and calendar for 2023-2024 year

Following input from the communities Northwest ISD serves, the district will change secondary start and dismissal times beginning in the 2023-2024 school year to provide more time between middle school and high school and alleviate traffic.

To provide more time for traffic to exit campuses, the difference between middle school and high school start and end times will be increased from 10 minutes to 25 minutes. High school start and dismissal times will move up 10 minutes, while middle school start and dismissal times will move back 5 minutes. Elementary schools would be unaffected. The proposed changes are:

Please note these changes do not affect the current school year. Start and dismissal times will remain the same for the second semester of the 2022-2023 school year.

Additionally, Northwest ISD has updated its 2023-2024 calendar to make Election Day on November 7 a student holiday and staff development day. This change was made following feedback from families at schools that were used for polling locations by our partner counties. Because of this tweak, the last day of school will move back one day, to May 24, but it will remain an early-release day.
