Students who attend the Dr. David Hicks Early Childhood Center, Northwest ISD’s first school designed exclusively for pre-kindergarten, will have an adorable mascot to guide their learning.

Opening in August, Hicks students will be known as the Huskies – after the dog breed – and be represented by blue and white. Art murals in the school will feature various poses of the Hicks Husky as a playful nod to the fun and engaging learning students will partake in during the school day. The school will mark the first of four early childhood centers approved by voters in the 2023 bond election.

The Hicks Early Childhood Center is named in honor of Dr. David Hicks, a former Northwest ISD superintendent who sadly passed away following a medical emergency. Dr. Hicks was known for his commitment to education across all grade levels, advocating for early childhood literacy and pre-K for a solid educational foundation.

Located off F.M. 156, south of Hillshire Drive and north of East Bonds Ranch Road, the school emphasizes play-based learning classrooms that provide teachers with unique environments to integrate into lessons for students. Families of pre-K students in the Eaton High School feeder pattern will have the option to enroll their child in the school.

Enrollment for all students for the 2026-2027 school year begins April 1. For families of students interested in tuition-based pre-K, a lottery system will open March 25. Additional information about pre-K programs in Northwest ISD can be seen at www.nisdtx.org/prek.
