For the first time in school history, James M. Steele Early College High School is the home of a UIL State Champion. In just their second year competing as an Academic UIL campus, the Stallions had four students travel to Austin this week for the UIL Academic and Speech State Championships, with senior Conner Childs coming home with two state championships.

Conner won gold medals in the 2A UIL Chemistry and UIL Physics competitions. He also placed third overall in UIL Science while Yash Gupta placed third in UIL Chemistry.

The pair were part of Steele ECHS’ four-student science team that took home the silver medal. Conner and Yash were joined on the team by Lucas Hawkins and Conner Hallock.

Just a few months ago Steele ECHS had a student qualify for a state-level UIL competition for the first time, and now for the first time since the campus opened in 2010, the Stallions are the home of a UIL State Champion.
