Booming growth continues with record-setting 2022-2023 start

Northwest ISD welcomed more than 28,600 students for the first day of the 2022-2023 school year, an increase of more than 1,600 students from the start of the previous school year. The district expects to eclipse the 30,000-student mark this school year, continuing its trend as the fastest-growing school district in North Texas.

The 2022-2023 school year began on Wednesday, August 17, with five campuses under construction to make room for the tremendous population growth. Dr. David Hicks began his first full year as new superintendent by welcoming students at several campuses.

“Today was an amazing first day of school,” Dr. Hicks said. “I had the privilege of seeing our teachers prepare students for a year filled with learning, and the expertise of our educators was on full display. And the best news is we get to do this again tomorrow!”

In addition to students, schools welcomed thousands of family members at elementary campuses on the first day of school, an annual tradition as the youngest students begin or continue their academic journeys. This practice and additional family adjustments during the first two weeks of school will temporarily cause increased traffic around campuses, which will soon dissipate.

To keep families informed throughout the school year, Northwest ISD and its campuses now use ParentSquare to communicate news and updates. The district encourages families to register for the new service to adjust their communications preferences – including whether to receive messages by phone or email – though they will receive communication regardless.
