Following their unanimous approval, Northwest ISD trustees have promoted Dr. Eric Drewery to become the district’s new executive director of human resources. The move places an experienced Northwest ISD team member as a leader of hiring and retention across the district.
Dr. Drewery has served as director of secondary staffing since 2017, where he oversaw the hiring and retention of educators and staff across the district’s four high schools and six middle schools.
Prior to joining district administration, Dr. Drewery served as an administrator at Medlin Middle School from 2008 to 2017, first as assistant principal before becoming principal in 2012. Dr. Drewery began his career in education in the Houston area in 1999, where he worked in roles related to special education for several years. He served as a program therapist, special education teacher and student support specialist at locations including Stafford MSD and Katy ISD before joining campus administration in Northwest ISD.
“Our district is known across the state for the quality of our teaching and support staff, and I’m excited to play a bigger role in ensuring we have the best people in our schools,” Dr. Drewery said. “Our students and families deserve the best people educating our children and supporting our teachers, and we’re going to continue to recruit and retain highly qualified staff.”
Dr. Drewery replaces Kim Barker, who was recently promoted to become the district’s assistant superintendent for human resources. In his new role, Dr. Drewery will manage staffing of all schools, lead recruitment and retention efforts, and oversee orientation programs for new staff.
Professional accolades have followed Dr. Drewery throughout his career, both in terms of awards as well as noteworthy presentations. While at Medlin, Dr. Drewery was named the 2015 Region XI Middle School Principal of the Year, and he has spoken at prestigious conferences such as the American Association of School Personnel Administrators’ National Conference.
Dr. Drewery earned his doctorate in educational leadership from NOVA Southeastern University, his master’s degree in social work from the University of Texas at Arlington, and his bachelor’s degree in social work from the University of Texas at Austin.
