Eaton wrestler wins State Championship, seven from NISD finish on podium
Student-athletes from all three Northwest ISD comprehensive high schools traveled to the UIL Wrestling State Championships last weekend with Eaton High School senior Neelie Parker earning an individual state championship.
Neelie triumphed in the 6A girls 132-pound weight class by winning all four of her matches on Friday and Saturday at the Berry Center in Katy on her way to earning a gold medal and state title.
Six additional NISD wrestlers placed on the podium, highlighted by a runner-up finish and silver medal from Emma Graves of Northwest High School who wrestled in the finals of the 5A girls 107-pound weight class.
In total, the Texans came home with three medals as Mackenzie Blue and Nate Jean earned third-place finishes and bronze medals in the 5A girls 132-pound weight class and 5A boys 165-pound weight class, respectively.
Byron Nelson High School had two wrestlers finish on the podium with Darryl Ntouba finishing in 4th place in the 6A boys 285-pound weight class, and Marli Denmark finishing in 6th place in the 6A girls 138-pound weight class.
Marli, a sophomore and NISD’s only underclassmen to finish on the podium, advanced all the way to the semifinals of the bracket. She then later wrestled Eaton’s Emilee Zeringue in an all-NISD 5th place match with Emilee coming out on top.
