Northwest ISD has named Edwina West-Dukes as principal of J.C. Thompson Elementary School, bringing a veteran campus administrator to lead the “Best School in the Universe,” as the campus is affectionately known.
For the past six years, Ms. West-Dukes has served as the principal of Heritage Elementary School in neighboring Keller ISD. Prior to her time as a principal, she served as an assistant principal for two years in Keller ISD and four years in Fort Worth ISD.
Ms. West-Dukes said her ideals align with those of Dr. Leigh Anne Romer, the former J.C. Thompson Elementary School principal who sadly passed away in July.
“I am eager to join the JCT Trailblazer community and build upon the amazing work that Dr. Romer created in her 12 years as principal,” Ms. West-Dukes said. “One of my top priorities is to maintain a positive and welcoming campus culture, which motivates students and staff alike to continuously improve academically. I look forward to meeting our Trailblazer community in the coming days.”
Prior to her time in campus administration, Ms. West-Dukes served as an elementary teacher for eight years in Fort Worth ISD. Before becoming a teacher, Ms. West-Dukes began her professional career supporting children as an elementary education manager at Junior Achievement. She then transitioned into public education as the assistant coordinator of school and community partnerships for Fort Worth ISD.
Ms. West-Dukes earned her bachelor’s degree from Prairie View A&M University and holds two master’s degrees, including a master of education in educational leadership and policy studies, both from the University of Texas at Arlington.
