Elementary Science Coordinator receives Distinguished Leadership in Science Education Award for advancing elementary science across Texas

The Science Teachers Association of Texas has honored Elementary Science Coordinator Kelly Suarez with the Distinguished Leadership in Science Education Award, one of the organization’s top recognitions. 

Each year, STAT recognizes excellence in and dedication to the field of science education through its annual award program. Ms. Suarez was honored this week at the annual Conference for the Advancement of Science Teaching, receiving an award, $500 gift and more.

Ms. Suarez supports more than 550 K–5 science teachers, guiding curriculum implementation, modeling research-based instruction, coordinating science materials and assessments, and strengthening inquiry-based learning across the district.

At the state level, Ms. Suarez has also helped revitalize the Texas Council of Elementary Science, serving in multiple leadership roles and expanding professional learning opportunities for hundreds of teachers statewide.

A dedicated advocate for student-centered, curiosity-driven science education, Ms. Suarez has presented nationally, developed innovative lessons and led impactful professional development.

Her commitment continues to elevate science teaching and learning across the district and beyond.
