Northwest ISD has named Hannah Garcia as the next principal of Cox Elementary School, elevating a proven district assistant principal for the upcoming school year.
For the past three years, Ms. Garcia has served as the assistant principal of Carter Elementary School. She previously served as an assistant principal at Lance Thompson. In her time as an assistant principal, Ms. Garcia led professional learning committees to focus on academic achievement as well as committees focused on the creation and achievement of campus goals.
Ms. Garcia said she will focus on empowering teachers and building community relationships with Cox Elementary School families as she leads the campus next school year.
“I’m excited to build upon the strong reputation Cox Elementary School has for academic excellence by supporting our teachers,” Ms. Garcia said. “In addition to giving teachers the resources they need to educate our students, a strong community environment serves as the bedrock for successful school. I look forward to partnering with our Cox Cougar families to best support our students and teachers.”
Prior to entering campus administration, Ms. Garcia served as an educator at Peterson and Curtis elementary schools. She was the 2019 Exemplar Educator of the Year for Peterson Elementary School. Ms. Garcia brings the unique international education experience of teaching and serving on the campus leadership team at West Nairobi School for four years.
She will succeed Chrisa Oakley, who will serve as the inaugural principal of the Hicks Early Learning Center after leading Cox for the past seven years.
Ms. Garcia earned her master’s degree in educational leadership from Lamar University and her bachelor’s degree from Texas Woman’s University.
