High school rezoning to take place this semester with community input

With the opening of Davis High School in 2027, Northwest ISD will soon begin the high school rezoning process for the 2027-2028 school year. This process will look at high school boundaries throughout the district to best balance enrollment and provide long-term stability for families.

Northwest ISD plans to begin the rezoning process in September with internal meetings, with the process slated to conclude before Thanksgiving break. As with all district rezoning processes, community input will be solicited through several avenues.

Planned 2027-2028 High School Rezoning Timeline

• September – Initial Proposal: District leaders will present a proposed high school attendance boundary map to the Board of Trustees. This information will then be posted online and communicated to all district families within 24 hours.
• October – Community Feedback: Community members will have the opportunity to submit feedback online or by attending community input meetings to be held at each comprehensive high school. District leaders will review all feedback and consider potential changes.
• November – Boundary Approval: Northwest ISD will present a final recommendation to the Board of Trustees, at which time they will vote on the proposal. The outcome of the attendance boundary process will be posted online and communicated to all district families within 24 hours.

As previously communicated, Tidwell and Worthington middle schools, at minimum, will feed into Davis High School, though exact areas in these boundaries that will attend the new campus are being determined. Davis High School will open with freshmen and sophomores, adding a grade level in each subsequent school year.

No, Davis High School will only have freshmen and sophomores during its inaugural school year.

Can my child remain at their currently zoned high school instead of Davis High School?
Rising freshmen and sophomore students rezoned to Davis High School will have the option to remain at their currently zoned high school if they meet one of the following criteria:

• They are enrolled in an academy at their current high school.
• They are on a staff transfer to attend their current high school.
• They have a rising junior sibling who will remain at their current high school. 

Students who have the option to remain at their current high school because of a junior sibling will be eligible for a transfer to remain at their current school for the duration of their high school career so long as they remain in good attendance and behavioral standing. These students will not be eligible for district-provided transportation if they choose to remain. Additionally, siblings who are not yet in high school during the 2027-2028 school year are not included in this transfer.

Why is the school opening with two grade levels?
Opening a high school with two grade levels allows the campus to establish its programs while not destabilizing existing high schools. This process has been used in Northwest ISD and other fast-growth school districts to positive student and school outcomes.

Why is Northwest ISD opening a new high school?
Northwest ISD’s high schools are all at or nearing capacity. Each high school is designed for 3,200 students, and all three comprehensive high schools currently enroll more than 3,000 students, indicating a need for a new school to prevent overcrowding and prepare for continued growth. Eaton High School is over capacity and will receive the most relief from the opening of Davis High School.

Will Davis High School have the same programs as other high schools?
Yes, Davis High School will offer the same common academic and extracurricular programs as other high schools, pending student interest. Programs that are localized to a specific campus – such as academies – will remain exclusive to that school.
