Incumbents retain seats on school board

Northwest ISD voters have re-elected Steve Sprowls, Dr. Lillian Rauch and Jennifer Murphy to the district’s school board, according to preliminary results. Following certification of results, the incumbent trio will be sworn to a new term at the May 22 school board meeting.

In the May 6 election, unofficial results show voters electing Mr. Sprowls to the Place 5 seat on the board after receiving 7,456 votes for 58.27% of the total tally. His opponents, Jennifer Stephens and Amanda Smith, earned 4,335 votes (for 33.88%) and 1,004 votes (for 7.85%), respectively. In the Place 6 race, unofficial results show Dr. Rauch earning 8,138 votes for 63.46% of the total. Jon Pendergrass, her sole opponent, earned 4,686 votes (for 36.54%). In the Place 7 race, unofficial results show Mrs. Murphy earning 8,448 votes for 66.42% of the total. Michelle Slater, her sole opponent, earned 4,271 votes (for 33.58%).

When the trio is sworn in at the Northwest ISD Board of Trustees meeting on May 22, they will begin their next three-year terms steering the district’s direction with their fellow board members. Mr. Sprowls has served on the school board since 2017, Dr. Rauch has served on the board since 2014 and Mrs. Murphy has served on the board since 2020.

Mr. Sprowls brings a community-driven background to the school board as an individual who has volunteered and been involved in numerous district events for the past 16 years. Dr. Rauch brings experience as an educator, having previously taught in Northwest ISD for more than a decade. Mrs. Murphy brings experience as a community relationship builder, serving more than 20 years in the non-profit sector alongside her work volunteering in district schools.

Votes will be canvassed during a special meeting on May 16 to formally certify election results.
