NISD executive director named CTAT Administrator of the Year

The Career and Technical Association of Texas has named Northwest ISD Executive Director of College and Career Readiness Kelley Henderson its 2026 Administrator of the Year, recognizing her as the state's top career and technical education administrator.

The award honors CTE leaders who demonstrate exceptional leadership, champion student and teacher success, and make significant contributions through innovative and effective career and technical education programs. Ms. Henderson was recognized this week at the CTAT Summer Conference.

"I am incredibly honored to receive this recognition from CTAT,” said Ms. Henderson. "This award reflects the dedication of our amazing teachers, staff and students who make career and technical education thrive in Northwest ISD. Together, we're creating meaningful opportunities that prepare students with the knowledge, skills and experiences they need to succeed in college, careers and life."

Ms. Henderson leads a CTE program in one of the fastest-growing school districts in North Texas. The district offers eight academies and 21 programs of study, with plans to expand opportunities through the Transportation, Automation and Logistics Academy, which is scheduled to open along with Davis High School in August 2027.

Under Ms. Henderson's leadership, Northwest ISD continues to prepare students for success beyond graduation. During the 2025-2026 school year, students earned more than 7,600 industry-based certifications, with more than 3,000 certifications submitted for Texas Education Agency Industry-Based Certification accountability. The district also partners with nearly 100 businesses and higher education organizations that provide mentorships, internships and real-world learning opportunities for students.

Ms. Henderson has served as executive director since 2024. She began her Northwest ISD career as a CTE teacher, later advancing to CTE coordinator, director of career and technical education and ultimately executive director. She also serves on the CTAT Legislative Committee and participates in the Association for Career and Technical Education Region IV Fellowship.

Earlier this year, the Career and Technical Educators of North Texas named Ms. Henderson the Area II Administrator of the Year for her leadership and commitment to preparing students for postsecondary success. As Texas Administrator of the Year, she will now advance to the American Association for Career and Technical Education Region IV competition, where she will compete alongside top CTE administrators from Oklahoma, New Mexico, Arkansas, Mississippi, Missouri and Louisiana.
