Lutkenhaus named national Underclassmen Athlete of the Year
Northwest High School freshman Cooper Lutkenhaus has been named the COROS MileSplit 50 Underclassmen Athlete of the Year, an award given to the top high school underclassmen track and field athlete in the nation.
The reigning UIL 5A 800m champion has run sub-1:50 over three consecutive high-stakes races, doing so at the UIL State Championships, the RunningLane Track Championships and at the Brooks PR Invitational.
At the most recent of those meets, the Brooks PR Invitational in Seattle, he clocked a 1:47.58, becoming one of only four non-seniors to ever run under 1:48, and the only underclassmen to do so.
