Name recommendations for ECC #1 now accepted
Community members are invited to provide name recommendations for Northwest ISD’s first early childhood center, which will open in August 2026 in the southern portion of the school district. An electronic nomination form is available on the district’s website at www.nisdtx.org/nameschools.
Over the next two weeks, Northwest ISD will accept nominations for ECC #1, which will be located off F.M. 156, south of Hillshire Drive and north of East Bonds Ranch Road. As the first early childhood center in the district, it will supplement existing pre-kindergarten classes available at all Northwest ISD elementary schools. These schools are designed with a focus on experiential and play-based learning to cater to a young child’s developmental process. These facilities are also planned to offer staff daycare to continue to retain and recruit high-quality teachers and staff.
Families will have the opportunity to apply for enrollment of their pre-K children in the school regardless of where they live in the district, though a randomized system will be used to select students. If not selected, they will attend pre-K classes at their zoned campus or the next closest campus with capacity. For information about Northwest ISD’s pre-K programs, visit www.nisdtx.org/prek.
According to Northwest ISD Board Policy, trustees will name school buildings after an appropriate recommendation in line with one of the following categories:
- In memory of a person who has served the district or community, especially in service to children
- In memory of any person who has made a significant contribution to society and/or education and his or her name shall lend prestige and status to an institution of learning
- A local residential or geographic area
- A district property donor or his or her family members
As required by board policy, any namesake of a building or facility must be deceased.
Community members can submit nominations through Monday, May 19. Following nominations, the district’s Facility Naming Committee will review submissions – including previously submitted nominations for district facilities – and provide a recommendation to the school board in June.
ECC #1 marks the first of four early childhood centers approved by voters in the district’s 2023 bond election. Early childhood centers are designed to support Northwest ISD’s rapidly growing pre-K population and provide support for elementary schools. Each district elementary school also offers pre-K, though enrollment numbers have surpassed 1,000 pre-K students this year following an enrollment of just 565 students during the 2022-2023 school year.
