Names announced for next three Northwest ISD schools

At their October 18 meeting, the Northwest ISD Board of Trustees approved two names of new schools and reviewed a previously approved name of a third school that will open at the same time.

The three new schools will all honor individuals with strong ties to Northwest ISD. Set to open in 2023, the schools are: Johnie Daniel Elementary School in the Pecan Square community (Northlake, Texas), Molly Livengood Carter Elementary School in the Northstar community (Fort Worth, Texas) and C.W. Worthington Middle School in the LeTara community (Haslet, Texas).

Johnie Daniel worked as a land developer in the area, greatly influencing Northwest ISD’s growth as a leader at Hillwood for 20 years. He was a founding member of the company’s AllianceTexas team, which has substantially grown the developed area encompassed by Northwest ISD. He also managed Circle T Ranch, a sprawling ranch in the Alliance corridor. Mr. Daniel was a longtime Northwest ISD resident. His wife worked for Northwest ISD, and his children and grandchildren all graduated from district schools.

Molly Livengood Carter supported children in North Texas as an educator and was a Northwest High School alumna – the salutatorian of the Class of 1979 – whose ancestor settled the land where the school bearing her name will reside. Her connection to the area runs deep, with relatives who still live on land settled by their family in Northwest ISD boundaries. She was a speech-language pathologist at schools in North Texas, and both her daughters are graduates of Northwest High School. Mrs. Carter positively influenced many lives during her time as an educator.

C.W. Worthington served on the Northwest ISD Board of Trustees for a decade, from 1965 to 1975, who helped steer the district’s long-term vision. He was instrumental in the purchase of land on what is now Northwest ISD’s central complex, home of several districtwide facilities as well as Northwest High School, Pike Middle School and Hatfield Elementary School. A resident of the area from 1970 until his death in 2013, Mr. Worthington was a well-regarded pillar of the community who could frequently be seen at Northwest High School athletic events with his wife, a longtime district staff member.

Along with the three new schools, Northwest ISD will open two replacement campuses – for Hatfield and Seven Hills elementary schools – in 2023. As construction progresses, updates will be posted at www.nisdtxconstruction.org. Selections for each school’s principal, mascot and colors will be announced closer to their opening.
