NHStv named nation’s Best Daily Live News Show at STN Convention
With the highest-scoring entry nationwide, NHStv earned Best Daily Live News Show, receiving the prestigious Broadcast Excellence Award at the 2025 Student Television Network Convention in Tampa, Florida.
Northwest High School’s Creative Media Production Academy students were recognized for their storytelling, technical skills and creativity. The STN Convention, an annual gathering of student broadcasters, offers hands-on workshops and competitions judged by industry professionals.
“As an educator, there are no words to fully describe the pride I feel watching my students receive the Broadcast Excellence Award for the Best Daily Live News Show in the nation,” said Taylor Caballero, a Creative Media Production Academy teacher. “To see these young storytellers — their passion, their dedication, their creativity — recognized at the highest level is absolutely overwhelming. They are the ones who show up early, stay late, and pour their hearts into telling meaningful, authentic stories for our school and community.”
The Broadcast Excellence Award honors top-tier student-produced broadcasts, with entries evaluated by a panel of media professionals. Judging criteria include storytelling strength, technical quality, creativity and overall production value.
NHStv previously earned a Broadcast Excellence Award in 2019, but this marks the first time the program achieved the highest overall score out of all high school entries in the Daily Live News Show category. Only four schools nationwide received Broadcast Excellence in this category — and NHStv took the top honor.
For the competition, NHStv submitted a randomly selected daily newscast that originally aired in January.
“This award isn’t just about a title or a trophy,” Caballero added. “It’s the result of their relentless hard work and belief in each other. To know that their voices and their storytelling are being celebrated on a national stage is everything. I couldn’t be more honored to stand beside them."
