Nine NISD middle school students earn Platinum at Junior VASE
Northwest ISD is proud to recognize nine middle school students whose artwork earned Platinum Awards at the regional Junior Visual Art Scholastic Event (VASE) competition recently.
The competition, held at Leo Adams Middle School, was open to students from 46 area school districts. Students submitted work and conducted an interview with a judge to discuss their piece. If they scored a 4 out of 4, the work then went on to a second judging. The top 10 percent of those pieces were then named Platinum Award winners—the highest honor a middle school artist can receive.
Judges look for originality of concept, technical expertise, understanding of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), and the interpretation of the student's stated intent. Each year, Platinum Award winning pieces from around the state are featured on the Texas Arts Education Association’s website, www.taea.org.
The following is a complete list of NISD students who earned Platinum Awards at this year’s Junior VASE competition.
