NISD creates Advanced Academics Ambassador program for students

Northwest ISD is proud to implement an Advanced Academics Ambassadors program that will begin in the 2024-2025 school year. Similar to the already well-established CTE Ambassadors, this new program includes 40 students who will serve as “the face” of Advanced Academics in NISD. 

Advanced Academics teachers at each of NISD’s three comprehensive high schools could nominate up to two students in their course, and ambassadors are nominated to begin their junior year and may choose to serve a two-year term. 

The inaugural group of ambassadors (names listed below) met for the first time this summer as they came together to receive six hours of training and team building that prepared them to reflect on the many faces of Advanced Academics in NISD and to be the voice of Advanced Academics opportunities throughout the district.  

All students gained a working knowledge of Advanced Placement, OnRamps, dual credit and honors courses and developed their elevator speech to help share the advantages of Advanced Academics throughout our community. 

Ambassadors will be able to verbalize their experiences in Advanced Academics courses and convey the academic advantages they have developed in these courses. Ambassadors will share the importance of taking a chance on college credit-bearing courses and share the message that every student can take at least one advanced academic course. 

Ambassadors develop networking, public speaking and leadership skills, accrue volunteer hours and build friendships across NISD campuses. These experiences can help enhance their academic resumes and college applications.
