Northwest ISD has unveiled the official colors for Barksdale Middle School, set to open in the 2026-2027 school year near the Pecan Square community.

The school’s primary colors will be gold and white, with dark gray as a secondary color. In mid-September, students from Daniel and Lance Thompson elementary schools will vote on the school’s mascot.

Located in Northlake, one of the district’s fastest-growing areas, the new campus will relieve capacity at Pike and Medlin middle schools. A rezoning process for Barksdale Middle School’s attendance boundaries is scheduled for this winter.

Approved by voters in the 2023 bond, Barksdale Middle School will incorporate Northwest ISD’s latest design features, including collaborative learning spaces and clearly defined areas for academics, athletics and fine arts.

The school is named after Floyd Barksdale, a former Northwest ISD board of trustee and longtime community supporter known as the voice of Northwest Texan football and a dedicated advocate for youth sports in Haslet and Justin.
